The department of Economics at Government Model degree college Daporijo began with the College’s First academic session in July 2012. Economics was offered from the very start as the College’s undergraduate program, though an Honors (major) was not available or chosen by students in the initial year.

The Colleges’ first Formal Economics Major (Honors) batch began in 2016 as a semester batch of Two Students. Since 2016 the number of students opting for Economics Major has grown each year. In addition to the Honors program, the department now offers Minor and MDC options to provide breadth and applied skill for undergraduates.

The Department aims to cultivate critical and analytical thinking among students by enabling them to understand and evaluate real world economic issues.it seeks to develop their ability to apply economic reasoning, interpret Data, and asses’ policies logically and objectively.
